Visitors to Colombia will find that the country offers visa-free travel for up to 90 days for a wide range of countries. Colombia also offers special tourist visas for those with short-stay visas issued by either the USA or any Schengen country. These unique visas are eligible for application by residents of a few select countries and territories including:
- Cambodia
- China
- India
- Macau (up to 180 days)
- Myanmar
- Thailand
- Vietnam
For application of this special visa, the existing short-stay visa or residence permit for the USA or Schengen country must be valid for a period of 180 days from the date of arrival to Colombia.
For those that require a pre-approved Colombia travel visa, various documents will be required including:
- Valid passport (including a photocopy)
- Proof of any previous Colombian visas
- Passport size photo (3 cm x 4 cm) taken within three months
- Six months of bank statements
- Full travel itinerary including airline ticket details
- Proof of accommodation in Colombia
It is important to note that all documents are required to be in Spanish. For those not in Spanish, they must be translated by an official translator for the Colombian government and legalized via an Apostille stamp.
Colombia offers various visa options for those looking to enter the country. These including:
Tourist visa – Short to mid-term visas that allow for tourism, business, medical treatments, working holiday and human rights projects. These are valid for a period of 90 days, with some exceptions allowed.
Migrant visa – For foreigners who intend to live in Colombia for an extended period and who are looking to setup a temporary or permanent residence status. These are valid for a period of three years and can be renewed.
Resident visa – For foreign nationals who meet specific requirements such as:
- Have held a migrant visa for at least four years
- Have a Colombian child
- Are reclaiming Colombia nationality
- Investment of a substantial sum into Colombia
It is also possible to obtain a temporary visa (Migrant visa) through the purchase of real estate, although the funds required to do so often change.
