Buenos Aires – Immigration

Visitors to Argentina from many countries are eligible to visit as a tourist for a period of 90 days with no prior required visa application. For those who do require a visa, the country offers various options for short-term visa applications including:

  • Tourist visa (purely for tourism and recreational purposes)
  • Business visa (for foreigners who need to enter the country on business)
  • Medical Treatment visa (for those seeking specific medical treatments in the country)
  • Media / Journalist visa
  • Religious visa (for those who are recognized by an official religious order)

For those who require a short-term visa, the application process generally requires foreigners to have:

  • Valid passport for at least 6 months
  • Visa application form
  • Photocopies of your passport
  • One 4cm x 4cm photo
  • Return flight tickets
  • Proof of accommodation in Argentina
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Payment of the visa fee

Depending on the visa type, additional documents may be required. For example, business visas require proof in the form of a letter of invitation from the company you are doing business with.
Argentina offers long term visas as well, including:

  • Working visa
  • Student visa
  • Family visa (for those with immediate family who are citizens of Argentina)
  • Investment visa
  • Retirement visa

For those looking to invest in Argentina, the investment visa is offered to foreigners who enter at a minimum of 1.5 million Argentine Pesos into a commercial activity such as a business or trade.

For those looking to retire to Argentina, you must be able to prove that you can sustain yourself (and your family, if applicable) financially without the need to work. This includes showcasing a minimum income of 30,000 Argentine Pesos from pensions or other forms of income.

Any foreigner who will stay in Argentina for longer than a three-month period will be required to register and receive a residence permit.
