Caracas – Immigration

Visitors to Venezuela can enjoy visa-free travel for a period of up to 90 days if they are part of a specific list of countries approved for visa-free travel. For those who require a visa in advance, several documents are required including:

  • Valid passport (including a photocopy)
  • Passport size photo (3 cm x 4 cm) taken within three months
  • Proof of sufficient funds for travel in the form of a bank statement or similar document
  • Full travel itinerary including airline ticket details

For those seeking to obtain more long-term accommodations, the government of Venezuela offers resident visas for those who qualify. These are required to be renewed every five years. The general requirements for becoming a resident are having proof of staying in the country for a period of two years on a legitimate visa and providing various required documentation which may vary based on the country the foreigner is originally from.

For foreigners looking to invest in Venezuela, “golden” business visas are issued and classified as either a Business Visitor Visa or an Investment Visa. The minimum required capital investment into the country is USD $100,000 and takes approximately 1 month to approve.

Finally, citizenship can be made available to foreigners and requires a period of at least ten years residing in Venezuela to do so. For those who reside in Venezuela but who are from a select group of Spanish-speaking countries, the requirement decreases to a minimum period of five years.
