Visitors to Costa Rica will most likely fly into Juan Santamaría International Airport, the major airport serving the capital of San José. Rental cars are common for those visiting the country, and motorcycles are also popular. Road conditions in Costa Rica can vary greatly and it can be relatively poor in the countryside, so drivers should exercise caution. Although a major tourist destination, visitors should exercise caution when traveling and beware of pickpockets. It is generally recommended not to walk San José at night, and instead to take a taxi to the locations you wish to visit after dark.
