Visitors to Lima will enjoy a range of museums and galleries that focus on the rich heritage of Peru. Collections vary between old and modern, with many dedicated to the Pre-Hispanic heritage and native peoples. Many of the city’s museums are concentrated in the Mira Flores district, however visitors will find that each neighborhood will offer its own culturally relevant points of interest, be it in the form of a museum, landmark or open-air exhibit.
Museo de la Nación (Museum of the Nation)
One of two major history museums in Peru, the Museo de la Nación is the larger of the two however recently has been adapted to hold sporicidal exhibitions. The museum itself includes several thousand of artifacts in its archive, which are placed on display throughout the year via various themed exhibitions and events. The objects held include those that span the entire human history of Peru. This includes many ancient ceramics as well as a reproduction of the burial chamber of the Lord of Sipan. Currently the location is being treated as an office for the Ministry of Culture, although the 6th floor includes a permanent exhibition that showcases photographs that involved Peru’s internal conflict in the late 1900s.

Museo Arqueológico Rafael Larco Herrera (Larco Museum)
Focus on pre-Columbian artworks, the Larco Museum is located in an 18th-century building and includes galleries that focus on 5,000 years of Peruvian history. One of the galleries more famous collections includes its pre-Columbian erotic pottery. Housing multiple permanent exhibitions, the Larco Museum is divided into four main areas, each showcasing a unique area of Peru. Other various textiles and metals are also on display, and the location often plays host to regularly scheduled international exhibitions that focus on cultures from around the world.

Museo de Oro del Perú y Armas del Mundo (Gold Museum of Peru and Weapons of the World)
Launched in the 1960s via a private collection, the Gold Museum of Peru and Weapons of the World includes more than 27,000 unique items. A large portion of the museum is dedicated to the gold of Peru. This includes more than7,000 various gold and silver artefacts, includes multiple pre-Incan exhibits. The latter half of the museum focuses on arms and weapons of the world, with some dating back to the 13th century. 20,000 weapons are located here and it is considered one of the world’s largest. Various military uniforms and armor are also on display.
