Machu Picchu – Essentials

Machu Picchu Lost city of Inkas in Peru[/caption]The only way to get to Aguas Calientes, and ultimately Machu Picchu, is by train or foot. From the town of Aguas Calientes, busses are available that take visitors the majority of the way to the Machu Picchu historic site. The closest train station is located at Ollantaytambo, a 1 hour and 45-minute trip from Cuzco (location of the closest airport). Machu Picchu and Aguas Caliente are both considered very safe due to their status as global tourist attractions. Visitors should take care of the natural dangers, including wildlife and changing weather conditions, as well as be sure that all hiking abides by the law and any required permits are secured in advance.
