Machu Picchu – Where to Stay

Machu Picchu is a preserved sanctuary and the land is protected, meaning there is no development allowed within the area itself. There is only one hotel available within Machu Picchu; a high-end lodge providing premium accommodations. Visitors often choose to stay in nearby Aguas Calientes which is referred to as Machu Picchu Pueblo. The small town provides direct access to the historic site and is where most accommodation for tourists is located.

Sanctuary Lodge – A Belmond Hotel

The Sanctuary Lodge is the only available accommodation within Machu Picchu. Priced at a premium, the hotel is located only a 10-minute walk from the Sacred Plaza as well as the Temple of the Three Windows. Located in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, the Hotel Retama Machu Picchu located a short walk from the Machu Picchu hot spring. Located 2.3 kilometers from the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, the hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi  to all guests plus tea and coffee makers in all rooms. Shuttle service is available at no charge to guests. The hotel is conveniently located nearby to many tourist attractions in the town of Aguas Calientes including the local craft market. SuperTramp Eco Hostel

This hostel is located a short walk from the Machu Picchu train station and is 9 kilometers from the Machu Picchu historical site. The hostel offers mixed-gender dorms that can accommodate up to 12 people. Rooms come complete with bunk beds and lockers with bathrooms being shared.
