The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
The largest museum in Canada by gallery space, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is located along the Golden Square Mile. Including a total floor area of 53,096 square meters, the museum covers five pavilions with unique exhibitions and galleries. The museum was founded in 1860 and is the oldest art museum in Canada. Associated with the Canadian Museums Association, it features a permanent collection of more than 44,000 individual works of fine art.

Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History
Formally the Pointe-à-Callière Museum and founded in 1992, this museum focuses on artefacts from the First Nations of Montreal. One of the city’s most famous tourist attractions, the museum has received many various national and international awards for its exhibits and collections. A total of three archaeological sites make up the museum complex, including the Mariners House which holds more than one million unique objects. Every period from Montreal’s past is covered through various exhibits and collections. The museum also plays host to lectures, debates, concerts and other theatrical performances throughout the year.

McCord Museum
This public research and educational museum focuses on the preservation and study of Canadian history. Located adjacent to McGill University in downtown Montreal, the museum was founded in 1921 by David Ross McCord to include his private collection. Currently the museum includes 15,800 unique objects including many that highlight the Aboriginal Canadians. A total of 7,300 aboriginal objects are on display, with some dating back 10,000 years into Canadas history. More than one million photographs and items related to early photography are on display as part of the Notman Photographic Archives.

University of Montreal
This French-speaking university has its main campus located on Mount Royal and offers more than 650 undergraduate programs and 71 doctoral programs. Originally founded as a satellite campus of the Université Laval in 1878, the school was make its own institution in 1967. Many the school’s alumni have gone on to serve as government officials as well as business leaders and academics. The university ranks high in computer science education, including placing 31st best school in the world and 2nd in Canada. McGill University
Founded in 1821 by royal charter, McGill University is located on Mount Royal in downtown Montreal. A member of the Association of American Universities, it is one of only two outside of the United States to hold membership. The university offers more than 300 fields of study and averages the highest acceptance grades of all Canadian schools. 41% of the student body are from outside of Canada and the school itself has held the top position for more than 16 years in Maclean’s Canadian University Rankings for medical-doctoral universities. It is one of three English-language universities in Quebec.
