Visitors to Rio de Janeiro will fly into Galeão – Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, located 20 kilometers north of the city. Transport into the city includes bus, taxi, or private rental car. Uber is readily available and is one of the main transportation options of choice from the airport. Although the tourist areas of Rio de Janeiro are relatively safe, it is important to always take general precautions and avoid carrying large amounts of cash or other valuable objects on you. Prior to venturing into any new district, be sure to research in advance and if unsure, check with your hotel prior to traveling to locations outside of the main tourist centers.
